Argument 1

The refrain of the song talks about the Romeo and Juliet love story of the 18th century. In pop, love, romance culture Romeo and Juliet refers to the ultimate love story about two people who fall in love and nothing in the world could stop them, including their families.
But in reality Romeo and Juliet is an epic fatal death story about lust and death.
The song depicks a love story where the girl and guy are in love but nothing can stop them including her dad. She was also like forcing him to fall in love becasue she wasn't about to give up on him. But he felt bad going aganist her dad, but in the end he was in love so he still never gave up on her in the inside.

Actually, the story of Romeo and Juliet is a lot older than the 18th century. Shakespeare wrote his play by that title in the late 1500s and it was a widely known epic-style poem well before Shakespeare got his hands on it. The music video, however, really confuses this by dressing the characters in 18th century clothing, probably because of the recent popularity of Jane Austin novels being made into movies and the similarities there.

There's all sorts of possibilities for discovery in this song. The lyrics play up some of the more well known aspects of Romeo and Juliet (the play) but also many other romantic fairy tales that are now common in culture. I'd love to see you tease out some more specifics and correlations.

I think the whole song refers to the Romeo and Juliet movie with Leo DiCaprio and Clare Danes. As far as I can remember they met at a party and she kept getting pulled away from him. Clearly the refrain is alluding to the story but i feel like the whole scene she is setting up sounds extremely close to that movie.
